Assignment 18: The Wall

I did 3 sets of cards for The Wall. I stuck with a rather simplistic style rather than my usual style, to keep it with a simple card game vibe. My biggest technical skill for this final assignment was just straight out drawing. Overall, I met my goals, which was to design cards that could be used for The Wall :P The cards are ordered below from 1st to 3rd in the order of 1) Backs, 2) Destroy, 3) Reinforcement, and 4) Walls.

Assignment 17: Art Deco

I did my art deco as an advertisement for New York. I was torn between the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty, but overall I'm glad I went with the Empire State Building. My most used technical skill was probably my use of gradients. I'm really proud of my clouds, I don't know why, but they make me happy.

Assignment 15: Interactive PDF

God, this was stressful. Turn outs my bookmarks were set to the wrong pages, so my buttons weren't working. Luckily I figured it out, and made a humorous interactive PDF of the Solar System. The buttons were my biggest technical skill for this assignment (and also the most annoying).

Assignment 14: E-mail Newsletter

It was fun to make something for Spud (even if half the information is outdated). My biggest problem was deciding on a background color, and I eventually decided to go with pink, like his pepto bismol. Tables were pretty easy to use, surprisingly. I was more put off by trying to put the file on the server again, but I eventually figured it out. That was probably my biggest used technical skill there. The only other skill I used was DreamWeaver. If I could change one thing, I'd take the contact info at the bottom and move it into that blank space in the right column, I didn't think to do that until it was too late.

Assignment 13: Content Management System

For my website, I made one for my club, Gamers Enjoying Each others' Company, or GEEC. It's laid out pretty simply, with an 'About' section, 'FAQ' section, 'Meeting Dates and Times' section, and a 'Contact' section. My only goal was to make a 4-page website, so I got that done :P Biggest technical skill was figuring out how Wordpress works, but once I got started, it was pretty simple.

Assignment 12: Sliced Web Page

This assignment wasn't hard, but it was kinda boring to be honest. But I achieved my goal, I sliced up a website that I made a few years ago as part of an internship, and then I put it together using CSS coding. The coding had to have been my biggest technical skill, since that was literally more than half of the assignment.

Assignment 11: Slam Covers

This has been one of the more fun assignments so far. My goal was to make 2 or 3 covers that illustrated either student life or the arts, while sticking to the school's colors of tan, gray, and/or maroon. My biggest technical skill was clipping masks, which I used to make the shadows on both posters.

Assignment 10: Shape Animation

I enjoyed this assignment. My goal was to make an animation of a sword being made, and then put together. Obviously, making a real sword would be way more complex than what's shown in this 30-second animation, but you get the general idea. I think the technical skill I used the most would be clipping masks, which I used for that orange 'flow' in the beginning.

Assignment 9: Thematic Text

This assignment was pretty easy, but I had no idea how to change the shapes to look like lava. What does lava look like, anyways? It's lumpy, isn't it? I feel like it's lumpy. But I met my goals, so I'm good. What technical skills did I use? Ummm.... font and an eraser. And clipping. Yeah. That works.

Assignment 8: Tablet Drawing

This was a really fun assignment for me, since it was purely drawing. And I'd say I met my goals. I wanted to draw picture, I drew a picture. It's a blaze from Minecraft. I don't know what else to say about it. So... yeah. Hope you had a good weekend. Btw, for anyone who doesn't know, multiply layers are great for shadows. Note: I realized I somehow lost the .psd file for this, so I turned in two other drawings to the M-drive. Sorry about that.

Assignment 7: Galleria

Since the assignment said we only needed to edit the website with a background, header, content, and footer, I didn't bother switching out the pictures (lord knows they're better than any pictures I have). I had a learning curve with this at first, as it's been a while since I've used DreamWeaver extensively, but I managed to meet all my goals. I couldn't get it to upload to the server however (It says it's connected to the server but it won't show up on the server when I hit upload, I'm sure I was doing something wrong) so I've put the folder in the M-drive, just to be safe.

Assignment 6: Pop-Up Photo Gallery

Not much to say on this one. Everything went really smoothly for the most part, it was more time consuming than anything. My only problem was shadows, and I managed to figure that out well enough (turn out I forgot to set the light's "Cast Shadows" to 'On'). Beyond that, I met all my goals.

Assignment 3: Vinyl Sticker

I failed this assignment. My design seemed fine, but when I ran it through the program, I misjudged how it worked. I didn't realize it cut out EVERY SINGLE OVERLAP. I assumed it did an outline of the imported vector. I had also misunderstood the assignment, and thought we had to print these on our own vinyl stickers, and didn't realize my mistake until this past weekend (for some reason I didn't think to look at the online tutorial beforehand, I'd assumed it was just a tutorial on how to make a design). Since I had misunderstood the assignment until such a late date, I didn't have enough time to fix my file, and get it printed correctly. It's my own fault for going to work instead of coming to class. I've attached a photo of my design to show I at least tried and knew what I wanted to do (I was going for a simple butt funny bumper sticker), but I'm afraid I don't have the actual sticker to turn in. Sorry about that Brian. I know I'm supposed to get a 0 for late work immediately, but if there's any way I can make this up, I'd like to know. Thanks.

Assignment 5: Lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols

Pretty much the whole story behind this is listed for Assignment 4, I'm not sure what else I could tell you. However, I realize my font is a little less on the creative side, so in order to make up for that, I decided to go ahead and make versions of the rest of the symbols as well. What's your favorite symbol? Mine's the tilde.

Assignment 4: Uppercase Letters

This assignment was a little more difficult for me at first. The hardest part was finding something I could use to make the font, since I'm on a mac. I tried that 'BirdFont' program, or whatever it was called, but it didn't work properly on my mac for some reason. Luckily, it turns out that font creators are a dime a dozen, including a nifty little app for an iPad called "iFontMaker". Thanks to that, I was able to make a font pretty easily and send it to myself as a .ttf. My font may not look like much, but what's really cool about it is that it's my own handwriting, given vector form and made into a font. Plus it's actually legible, so I'd say I met my goals.

Assignment 1: Animated Picture

So this is the first assignment for Integrated Media; an animated image. Overall, it was pretty easy for me, it was more time consuming to apply the mask frame by frame than anything else. My one issue was that I couldn't figure out how to get it to export as an image sequence with the mask actually acting as a mask. For a while, each image showed the mask as blue blobs, rather than making what it covered transparent. Obviously I figured out the issue, but that still frustrated me for a couple hours. Overall, I accomplished my goal of making an animated image. I'm not sure what technical skills I could mention in particular of using. I feel like Flash, despite taking the longest due to applying the mask and having the export issues, went rather well for me, easier than I expected at least. I'm really proud of my cracks and the animation I used for the lightning and blood. I guess that counts as a technical skill too. I dunno. Brian, explain to me what exactly you mean by technical skill. Other than that, I've got nothing to say.

Hi, I'm Trent. I'm attending Pierce College to gain an Associate's in Digital Design to become a Graphic Designer and hopefully eventually a conceptual artist. Also, I draw things. Some of those things aren't appropriate for school. So you'll never see them. I WANT THE CURIOSITY TO TEAR YOU APART.
